Here at Your Best Friends Butcher we offer a high level of service and information about pet food to customers old and new in New South Wales. We believe that we can offer exactly what is best for your pet when it comes to what to feed. On this page, we will discuss Bones And Raw Food (or BARF) for short.
When feeding Bones And Raw Food (BARF) , the following information provides an excellent start to setting out the daily amounts of food to give your dog.
Your dog needs 15% to 20% of its body weight in food per week. This equates to 2% to 3% per day. The food should be a mixture of bones and meat in balance...not Meat alone.
Below is a dog feeding guide including weights, and suggested amounts of food per day. They are a GUIDE only and the actual amount of food should be given after assessing the condition and 'shape' of your dog on an ongoing basis. Please contact us if you are unsure how to feed your dog.
85% of the food should be meat and 15% should be bones. Bones can be chicken wings, chicken carcasses, lamb ribs, turkey legs / wings etc.
About a quarter of the meat should be organ meat e.g. kidney, liver, heart, lung etc all of which are available at Your Best Friends Butcher.
Vegetables are also good to add to a meal. These can be chopped and added raw...or scraps from your evening meal are good too. About 10% of your dog's weekly food can be vegetables.
